Farmer, N. (2002) The House of the Scorpion. New York: NY. Simon & Schuster's Children 's Publishing Division.
This book is incredible. This is a story set in our future that involves some extreme science and cloning. I believe (hope) that this book is leaning more towards fantasy rather than science fiction because the events in this book are "out there" based on our scientific discoveries to date.
This book has so many levels that could be used with the right student or small group. I wouldn't suggest this as an assignment for an entire classroom because the content is mature and some children and parents may struggle with the issues presented in this book.
